The thing that causes scale rot is WET substrate and unclean conditions, but DAMP substrate, which is how you maintain high humidity, is perfectly safe, especially because the top layer of your substrate generally dries out anyways, leaving a damp layer underneath. this megathread topic: all about choosing and setting up hides. These snakes are adapted to high humidity, they can handle things being humid in the enclosure. Having higher humidity in the enclosure DOES NOT cause scale rot, nor does misting (and misting also does not cause RI). Using just a humidity box forces them to choose between having the correct humidity and literally anywhere else in the enclosure, and as a result generally leads to dehydration, which, as we mentioned, leads to RI. It took her a little bit to adjust to it. I wasnt sure if my Gecko would fit as she is a bit of longer girl. So let me say first, I was very skeptical of this humid hide. So a humidity box is absolutely insufficient for ball pythons, and here's why:īall pythons are from a humid region of Africa, and NEED an ambient humidity of at least 55% throughout their enclosures, or else they literally lose moisture with every breath and their nares dry out and become cracked and then they are susceptible to RI.
